The Gondola Party reimagined by Mike Quyen
London-based visual artist Mike Quyen collaborated with The Savoy Hotel to reimagine one of its most legendary events: the 1905 Gondola Party. This project was part of the hotel’s ‚Savoy Originals‘ series, which invites contemporary creatives to reinterpret iconic moments from its storied history. The original Gondola Party was hosted by American millionaire George Kessler, who transformed the hotel’s courtyard into a Venetian canal, complete with a gondola, to celebrate his birthday. Quyen Mike’s modern tribute captured the opulence and whimsy of that evening through his signature surreal and cinematic style, blending fashion, storytelling, and digital artistry.
This collaboration exemplifies The Savoy’s commitment to bridging its rich heritage with contemporary creativity, allowing artists like Quyen Mike to bring historical narratives to life for modern audiences.
Enjoy!
